SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse, offers a proficiency in the art and science of short-term psychotherapy while having the additional advanced physical and psychiatric assessment skills. Along with the nursing focus on full care provision ranging from mental health promotion to illness prevention, this role also involves interventions which encompass psychobiologic diagnosis and treatment. In addition, emphasis is placed on psychosocial education for these patients and their families to promote mental health and prevent subsequent mental disorders.  The nurse practitioner will be the prescriber for an Assertive Community Treatment Program which works as a multidisciplinary team to provide treatment, rehab, and support to adults living with serious mental illness.  These services are provided in the community where our clients live and work. 

Compensation: to be discussed upon interview (salary is determined by total years of relevant experience)
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of five years of experience in the Behavioral Health Nursing field.
  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited (ANCC) educational institution. Licensed with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
  • Current license in your state of residence.
  • Must also be licensed in Nebraska and Iowa as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse APRN-NE or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner ARNP-IA, license must be held in the state you practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prescribes medications within their scope of practice.
  • Completes routine medical history and physical examinations when needed.
  • Evaluates and assesses the bio-psycho-social needs of patients.
  • Develops comprehensive treatment plans in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Completes updates as required.
  • Communicates information to other agencies/organization as appropriate.
  • Provides progress notes, treatment plan updates and discharge summaries in accordance with agency policy. Documentation is completed within 24 hours of therapeutic interaction.
  • Conducts therapy sessions utilizing appropriate intervention: e.g., individual, couples, family, and didactic teaching.
  • Interact and coordinate with a multidisciplinary team. Be present during daily team meeting.  Provide appropriate education to the team as needed regarding medication, therapy, diagnoses, etc. 
  • Provides crisis intervention and is available to assist the on-call staff with psychiatric emergencies.
  • Provides, when indicated, case management sessions with significant persons in the patients’ life.
  • Is dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance.
  • Display a courteous and caring attitude at all times to the clientele, volunteers, and visitors of Heartland Family Service.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with program area staff, volunteers, and other Agency staff.
  • Abide by all specific program and Agency procedures, policies and requirements.
  • Develop personal and program related skills through participation in internal and external training opportunities including printed material and audio and/or visual media.
  • Perform other program related duties as assigned.
