Reports To: Executive Director of Nutrition Services


 


Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12-month / exempt


 


Salary Schedule:  Technician S26/91D Starting salary = $81,579.08.  Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.


 


Position Purpose:  This position is responsible under the direction of the Executive Director of Nutrition Services for processing, analyzing, reviewing, and coordinating financial and accounting information for the Nutrition Services Division, including payables, receivables, payroll, assets, and general ledger. Will work closely with others to ensure compliance with all financial and reporting requirements.


 


Essential Performance Responsibilities: 



  • Prepares federal and state Child Nutrition program applications and submits all required reports according to the schedule.

  • Prepares the Nutrition Services budget.  Compare expenditures and revenue against the forecast.

  • Audits financial documents and procedures.  Ensure that the proper accounting procedures are followed.

  • Complies with financial policies and regulations.

  • Reviews and reconciles Nutrition Services reports from PeopleSoft (revenue and expenses), the Board of Education, and the Nutrition Services software (revenue, edit checks, claims).  Analyze the reports for accuracy.

  • Oversees the preparation of the USDA inventory reports.

  • Invoices various groups for services and reconcile all payment receipts.

  • Maintains files for various federal programs.

  • Submits required documentation for local, state, and federal audits as required by the auditors.

  • Responsible for daily banking activities; e.g. reconciling deposits, ordering change, deposit slips, and bank bags.

  • Assists with processing all invoices.

  • Prepares error-free financial statistical reports, as required, on time.

  • Reinforces financial data confidentiality.

  • Prepares adhoc reports as requested.

  • Works closely with the Accounting & Finance Department regarding budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.

  • Assists other Nutrition Services Division personnel in assigned duties as needed.


Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.


 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Bachelor's degree in business administration with specialization in accounting (minimum 24 credit hours in accounting) required.


  • Two to five years of experience in accounting.  Prior governmental fund experience preferred.




  • One to three years of experience in PeopleSoft Financial 8.8 and HCM 8.9 software desired.




  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Access) and ability to operate a computer. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel functions required including Vlookups and Pivot tables.




  • Demonstrated knowledge in budgeting, financial operations, and reimbursement accounting.




  • Must be self-motivated and detail-oriented.




  • Demonstrated proficiency at record keeping and have excellent organizational and analytical skills.




  • Must be able to work independently and maintain the flexibility to adjust to multiple projects and priorities.




  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information and data.




  • Excellent organization and communication skills, both oral and written.




  • Must be willing to take the initiative in completing projects.




  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects with strong attention to detail, set priorities, and meet deadlines and schedules.




  • Excellent attendance and work record.




  • Excellent interpersonal/customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with staff in diverse multicultural work environments. 




         


Equipment:  This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.


 


Travel:  Travel within the District required.


 


Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:



  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.

  • Must have outstanding organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Work in school building and central office environments.

  • Will work on a computer daily for multiple hours a day


Interrelations:



  • Maintain professional contact with personnel within all levels of the District, funding organizations, and auditors.

  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day-to-day tasks.

  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.

  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.

  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide timely, responsive customer service.


Employee Punctuality and Appearance



  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.

  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.

  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.


Terms of Employment


This position is treated as a full-time exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

  • Obtaining and providing verification of all licenses, certificates, and other requirements for the position (e.g., Paraprofessionals obtaining “Highly Qualified status,” etc.), as identified and maintaining all licenses, certificates, and requirements for your position throughout employment.

  • Verification of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (if required for position offered).
